Gout Diet

Gout Diet will be a great use to patients suffering with Gout. As Gout seems to be more prevalent in overweight people it is important to maintain a healthy body weight using this Gout diet.

Gout

Gout is a form of arthritis. Gout usually occurring in the cooler extremities of the body, like feet or toes. When the excessive uric acid in the bloodstream leaves needle like crystal deposits in the joints causing redness, swelling and extreme pain leads to Gout.

The Uric acid generally dissolves in the blood stream. But when there is an increase in the production of the Uric acid or when the kidneys are not functioning properly to eliminate uric acid or when there is increased consumption of purines in the food will lead to Gout. Actually the Purines are the chemical found in certain foods that forms uric acid when broken down in the body.

Gout Diet

A research on Gout Diet had shown that the people who consume the highest amount of meat are at 40 percent more risk to have the disease compared than the people who eat the least. This research on gout diet had also said that people who eat the most seafood are at 50 percent more risk.

On the other hand a gout diet with the highest dairy intake was found at 44 percent less risk to produce symptoms of gout. Low-fat dairy products decrease the risk of gout, while overall protein intake has no effect one way or the other.

High Purine Foods

The items, which should not be included in the gout diet i.e. the High Purine Foods are b eer, anchovies, game meats, yeast, herring, meat extracts, gravies, sardines, mackerel, scallops and organ meat like kidney, liver, brains, sweetbreads.

Medium Purine foods

The items, which should be included in moderation in the gout diet i.e. the Medium Purine foods are Fresh and saltwater fish, shellfish, eel, asparagus, oatmeal, bran, wheat germ, whole-grain breads and cereals, eggs, mushrooms, cauliflower, spinach, legumes, meat, poultry, meat soups and broth.

Low Purines foods

The items that are allowed to include in the gout diet i.e. the Low Purines foods are Vegetables not high in purines, Breads and cereals, nuts, peanut butter, coffee, tea, fruit juices, soft drinks, gelatin, sugar, low fat cheeses and soups - cream style or vegetable without meat extract.
